This role will involve working within the Simulation Department on design assessment and optimisation of the Fuel Injection System using simulation techniques and physical test data.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Conduct appropriate simulations (with a particular focus on tribology and structural analysis) to support design, development, validation and manufacturing activities of diesel fuel injection system components.
• Work closely with product team members (Design and Development Engineers), following the project and proposing design and testing recommendations to the team based on simulation results.
• Liaise with other functional groups (Materials, Validation) and customer teams to obtain and share information to improve the accuracy and value of simulation activities.
• Report to the Simulation Manager, documenting methods, assumptions, results and conclusions.
• Prepare and present summaries of work to a diverse audience in-person and in conference calls.
• Support the development and implementation of new analysis techniques to improve simulation capabilities and product performance.
• Plan work activities effectively, support project planning and complete work packages on time.

Required skills include:
Mandatory

• Application of simulation methodology and fundamental physical principles to the design of hydraulic components.
• Thorough knowledge of commercial simulation software like Ansys, AMESIM. GT Suite.

Desirable

• Good Understanding of Tribology and ideally worked on Elasto-hydrodynamic analysis using for e.g. IST First.
• Able to perform a simulation with fluid structural interaction.

Attributes

• Proven understanding of the principles of physics and mechanical engineering.
• Familiarity with fluid dynamics and metal fatigue principles.
• The ability to study a problem and identify the most appropriate analysis techniques (hand calculations, 1D/2D/3D, testing actual components).
• Understanding the nature of models and the consequences of the assumptions used.
• Ability to work as part of a team whilst showing self-motivation and initiative.
• Some experience of following analysis procedures.

Qualifications/Educational/Experience:
Mandatory
Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in a suitable engineering discipline.
At least 5 years of experience using the above-mentioned Simulation tools in an industrial setting.

Desirable

• At least 5 years of experience in the analysis of high-pressure Fuel Injection Systems and a detailed understanding of associated hydraulic components and advanced simulation methods applied to these.
• Understanding of drivetrain tribology.
• Experience in using and writing code in Python.
• CAD/Solid Modelling experience, preferably with SolidWorks or NX.
• Understanding of detail drawing and geometric tolerancing.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes e.g. grinding, heat treatment, injection moulding.

The role will involve setting and operating production lines as well as compounding equipment to agreed schedules.

Working hours:

4 on and 4 off 12 hour shifts (7.00am to 7.00pm / 7.00pm to 7.00am).

Key tasks will include:

• Select, check and apply the correct material recipes and equipment set-up conditions.
• Operate multiple logic-controlled machines (Extrusion, Slitter, Sheeter, Stretcher and more).
• Carry out grade changes and periodic equipment cleaning to the required standards in a safe and timely manner.
• In accordance with procedures, make necessary changes to set-up conditions and or recipe to maintain both quality standards and target output rates.
• Periodically undertake full stripping and cleaning of extrusion equipment and other related plant as required.
• Undertake visual inspections and first-line maintenance tasks within the scope of the role.
• Monitor feed stock levels and ensure sufficient material to maintain production.
• Load and unload goods, using, Fork Trucks, Grab Trucks, and Pedestrian Operated Lift Trollies.

Responsibilities include:

• In accordance with Quality Control procedures, perform timely checks taking appropriate action to ensure quality standards are met.
• Record equipment set-up conditions at specified intervals and immediately act on or notify any deviation from standard.
• Monitor and accurately record production data.
• Complete production records, quality charts and events logs.
• Enter production and quality data into a computer-based system in an accurate and timely manner.
• Accurately record reel start and stop times, assigning correct levels of downtime to the relevant attributable causes.
• Produce and attach reel identification “Bar Code” labels, ensuring all data is correct.
• Use the computer-based system to despatch reels, prior to loading them onto a lorry.
