Just Temps is seeking Forklift Drivers (with counterbalance experience) for a company based in Sudbury, Suffolk.

Shift pattern: 4 on, 4 off (12-hour shifts)

• Day shifts: 6am - 6pm (2 days)
• Night shifts: 6pm - 6am (2 nights)

Role overview:

You will be responsible for operating a counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently within the company’s site, following a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern. You will work two 12-hour day shifts followed by two 12-hour night shifts.

Key responsibilities:

• Safely and efficiently operate a counterbalance forklift in compliance with site procedures and health and safety regulations.
• Load, unload, and move goods within the warehouse as required.
• Ensure all loads are secured and stored correctly.
• Conduct daily equipment checks and report any issues or defects.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth warehouse operations.

Role requirements:

• Accredited Counterbalance Forklift Licence (valid and up-to-date).
• Previous experience operating a counterbalance forklift in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work both day and night shifts as per the rotating pattern.
• Willingness to complete a mandatory induction prior to starting.

The key purpose of this role is to:

• Manage, monitor and control all responsibilities of the business operating licence, ensuring that the company is always compliant with all undertakings.
• Manage the day-to-day operation of general haulage, pallet networks, ensuring the company maximise its backload potential and is maximising revenue per vehicle per day.
• Ensuring the firm deliver customer satisfaction and meets customer SLA’s.
• Managing operational costs of the business to ensure financial goals and targets are achieved.
• Managing a fleet in excess of 80 trucks and 100 trailers, managing 65 drivers as well as with the planning and customer service teams, reporting directly to the GM.

Key duties include:

• Fully utilise all IT systems and platforms to ensure the fleet remains legal and compliant and to improve and maximise the efficiency and smooth running of the operation, providing maximum fleet availability at all times.
• Build, grow and maintain effective working relationships with key stake holders within the business to promote partnership working and improving operational efficiency.
• Create, promote and implement, clear communication channels with internal departments and external customers to improve KPI’s and the profitability of the business.
• Manage all information to ensure it is up-to-date and held in a secure location in order to comply with GDPR legislation.
• Manage driver hours and tachographs and forward data to the relevant internal departments to ensure accurate records are kept, securely stored and readily available on request and Drivers' workloads can be compiled in accordance with legislation.
• Lead on the implementation and management of safe working practices, general housekeeping and manage audits from both external and internal clients to ensure the company is compliant.
• Oversee and manage the maintenance of all fleet vehicles and trailers, including rented ones. This involves keeping detailed and accurate records of all driver-reported defects, safety inspections, routine maintenance, and repairs. These records must be maintained for a period of 15 months and be readily available upon request to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Monitor Driver behaviours, including, but not limited to vehicles and trailers not being overloaded, vehicles operating within speed limits, defects promptly reported and investigate any infringements with the individual drivers and record any remedial action taken.
• Manage the compliance of the operating centre specified including the laws relating to the driving and operation of vehicles used and report any changes to the traffic commissioner to ensure compliance.
• Manage customer service levels.
• On-boarding new customers to ensure smooth start-up.
• Ensuring we have enough sub-contractors to cover operational needs.

Role requirements:

• Logistics qualification would be desirable.
• A Transport Manager's Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is essential. TM CPC International essential.
• Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations, Road Transport Regulations.
• Commercial and Financial awareness.
• Working knowledge of transport operation systems.
• Geography of UK and road networks.
• Health and Safety regulations.
• Relevant transport management experience.

Key duties include:

• Complete all defect repairs, fault diagnosis and maintenance requirements as is necessary, to ensure all vehicles, trailers and equipment are kept in a safe working condition.
• Assist your colleagues when necessary to maintain an efficient service.
• Complete all paperwork clearly, accurately and in a timely fashion. This will include Job Cards (work description, parts and times), various types of inspection forms (vehicles, trailers and equipment) and any other paperwork that is deemed necessary by management.
• Prepare, present and accompany vehicles and trailers for annual MOT inspection to ensure they pass.
• Carry out periodic safety inspections on all vehicles and trailers to ensure they meet inspection standards.
• Always adhere to all workplace health and safety standards (including wearing appropriate PPE) and ensure compliance with regulatory body regulations and standards, including maintaining equipment, tools and the workplace.
• Ensure all areas of the workshop and equipment are maintained in a safe operating condition and any defects are reported through the appropriate process to provide a clean and safe working environment.

• Planing rigid & artic work for the following day.
• Warehouse checks.
• Reviewing manifest and update any amendments/notes.
• Providing rates, quotes and processing customer bookings.
• Monitoring delivery performance and advising customers of issues affecting time/completion.
• Competent IT literacy.
• Undertake any other ad hoc project or task within the company as required.

The working hours for this position will be Monday to Friday, working 8am to 6pm with occasional weekend work if required – this will be on a very ad hoc basis.
